SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- The man suspected of killing Kate Steinle was formally charged with murder Friday morning. Juan Francisco Lopez Sanchez will be back in court December 15.
Lopez Sanchez admitted in a jailhouse interview with ABC7 News that he fired the gun at Pier 14 on July 1.
His attorneys believe he shouldn't face murder charges because they say he found the weapon and fired it accidentally.
That shot hit and killed Steinle.
