MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. (KGO) -- The Princess Project is putting prom dresses on hundreds of Bay Area teens who otherwise wouldn't be able to afford one.

ABC7 News was at the Clarkwood Shopping Center in Mountain View for the non-profit's annual event.

The Princess Project has several chapters throughout California, which involve collecting donated prom dresses and giving them to teens in need.

All you need is a student identification. "Our goal is to make them feel special, beautiful, loved. They shop for about an hour with a fairy godmother which is a personal shopper and we help them to say yes to their prom dress," Silicon Valley Princess Project President Starr Rey said.

Bay Area organizers expect to give away more than 1,600 dresses this year.

Another event will be held on March 25 and March 26 at the Clarkwood Shopping Center in Mountain View.
