WASHINGTON (KGO) -- New data showed just how much of taxpayers' money U.S. senators are spending. Topping the list of big spenders are California's senators.

According to the Sunlight Foundation, the office of Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-Calif., spent more than $4.2 million between April 2013 and March of this year.

Boxer's office pointed out that Boxer represents the most populous state in the country and it naturally costs more to serve more people.

Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., was number two on the list, having spent more than $4.1 million.

Republicans aren't far behind. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Florida, and Tea Party favorite Ted Cruz, R-Texas, were next on the list, each spending about $3.8 million.
