Southwest Airlines Flight No. 1665, headed from Sacramento to Denver, was diverted late Sunday afternoon to Oakland after a mechanical problem. It landed at about 5:15 p.m.

The pilots encountered a mechanical issue on board so they diverted to Oakland International.

The flight took off from Sacramento International Airport and then circled for quite some time near Yuba City to burn off fuel before it touched down safely. According to Southwest Airlines, the captain onboard reported a pressurization event.

The airport didn't roll out any emergency equipment to meet the jet on the tarmac. According to Southwest, the jet met up with another Southwest plane and the 133 passengers were loaded onto that plane for their continuing trip to Denver.

This is the second Southwest Airlines jet to encounter a mechanical issue in-flight. Thursday, one of the airline's Boeing 737's had a landing gear issue and had to circle for hours to burn off fuel. That plane also touched down safely and the passengers eventually made it to their final destinations Christmas Eve.

ABC7 News did not have a chance to talk with any of the passengers aboard Sunday's flight since the plane landed and quickly departed.

According to a Southwest Airlines statement, passengers will be arriving in Denver about three hours late.

The aircraft that left Sacramento will stay out of service until it is checked.
