Peninsula mobile home parks brace for more rain

Mobile home parks in Belmont and Redwood City are preparing for the next wave of rain after a heavy storm system last week caused severe flooding. Belmont Trailer Park, RC Mobile Home Park, and Le Mar Trailer Park are all keep a close eye on the rain.

To prepare for the continuing storms, the mobile home park in Belmont has installed a temporary pipe that will help transport rainwater from their little community to city drains.

"Because it's taken so long to figure out a simple flooding problem," said a mobile home park resident named Seth. "Living in a place in central Illinois for a few years, where it is prone to flooding you know drained out swamp land, people have got this figured out."

The Red Cross arrived on Monday morning to help with supplies.

"We are delivering disaster cleanup kits," said Lynda Frattaroli with the Red Cross. "These two boxes make a complete kit with mops and brooms as well as bleach and cleaning supplies."

Residents are still without power. They say PG&E has not given them an estimate on when that will be restored.

In Redwood City, residents at two neighboring mobile home parks are also trying to recover.

A dumpster at the RC Mobile Home park is filled will flood soaked belongings from residents.

And at Le Mar Trailer park, residents were nervously watching the drain, hoping that it can handle Monday's storm.

Carlos Garcia was evacuated this weekend when that park flooded. It was also red-tagged because health officials were concerned the water was contaminated.

Garcia says he knows we need the rain, but he's still worried.

"I'm just concerned that if it doesn't stop soon, the same thing's gonna happen," he said.

The good news there is the red and yellow tags have been removed.
