A 10-year-old boy was killed today after being hit by a shuttle bus in San Ramon, police said.

The incident occurred around 3:30 p.m. at Montevideo and Veracruz drives where the boy was riding his bicycle on the sidewalk, Sgt. Eric Webb said. He rode his bike off a corner where a curb lowered down to the street, he said.

At that time, the bus started up and the front end of the vehicle struck the boy's side and drove over him, said Webb.

The boy was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

There were two passengers onboard the bus when the accident occurred but there were no other injuries, according to Webb. The driver of the vehicle was "extremely cooperative," he said, and volunteered to have his blood tested to prove alcohol was not a factor.

The family of the child, who live just a few houses down from where the accident took place, have been informed of the accident by police.
