Sheriff's deputies contacted the FAA at about 3:35 p.m. Saturday to report that a small plane piloted by a single occupant had crashed in an unincorporated part of the county earlier that afternoon, an operations officer at the FAA said.
Witnesses had contacted the sheriff's office after seeing an aircraft fly behind a hill and never reappear.
The FAA did not have information on the extent of injuries suffered by the pilot.
