Coroner's Detective Leslie Comrack said the remains are those of Peter D. Nielsen, 62, of Cloverdale. Nielsen's wife reported him missing in July, Comrack said.
Foul play is not suspected in Nielsen's death and the cause has not been determined, Comrack said. The coroner's office is awaiting a pathologist's final report, Comrack said.
"We can't deduce a lot from his physical condition," she said.
County road workers found the remains March 3 at Stewarts Point and Skaggs Springs Road in northern Sonoma County.
