Police received a call at 11:15 a.m. from a person who said that a U.S. Bank branch inside a Lucky store at 155 Crescent Plaza had just been robbed.

A bank employee told investigators that a man wearing a fake mustache and a tan shirt had approached the service counter and presented a note demanding money. The teller gave him some money and he fled the store on foot, police said.

A short time later, an officer spotted a man matching the description of the robber walking near the bank on Gregory Lane, west of Contra Costa Boulevard, police said.

The man fled when he saw the officer, but the officer chased him and caught him a short distance away, police said.

Witnesses later identified the man as the person who had robbed the bank and police allegedly found evidence on him that linked him to the robbery, police said.

The suspect was identified as 28-year-old Kenneth William Jr. He has been booked into Contra Costa County Jail in Martinez.
