The spill was reported at around 3:40 a.m. at a junction of eastbound Ralston Avenue and northbound Highway 101, CHP Officer Nicole Pacheco said. A garbage truck was apparently getting on the highway when it dumped garbage across lanes of both roadways.

The onramp and various right lanes of the highway were closed for about an hour while crews with a sweeper cleared the trash, Pacheco said.

No injuries were reported, Pacheco said.

The roadway was reopened at around 4:50 a.m.
