The historic San Francisco Old Mint Building once housed gold and coin. This week, there is a new sight and sound -- dancers. Choreographer Joe Goode has taken over the building for a new work that premiers Thursday.

His work has always been intriguing and provocative.

Innovative, physical Goode sees dance as theatre. "Traveling Light" is about hard time, changing times, ecology and exploration.

Goode was looking for a space that was rough, raw. The old mint was perfect; it is undergoing restoration.

Dancers perform in five rooms at the same time. The audience goes from room to room. Goode calls it structured confusion.

"Traveling Light" opens Thursday and runs through August 9.
