Shaun Hill will continue where he left off last year winning four of the team's last five games as the starter.

Hill's strength is not his arm, but his ability to manage the game with limited turnovers and the ability to put the ball in his playmakers' hands.

He is undefeated at Candlestick as a starter, where the Niners play three of their first five games this season.

Alex Smith has recovered from his shoulder surgery but has struggled.

"Almost made it through my whole sixth season without taking a snap in the league and now here I am with an opportunity to start for one of the most storied franchises in the NFL," said Hill when he addressed the media after practice Monday. "Very honored to have this opportunity with the 49ers."
