Researchers at the University of Cambridge have pinpointed the gene linked to more than half of all breast cancers.

The gene NRG1 normally acts like a brake, preventing cancer cells from growing. But if the gene is damaged, the brakes are off, allowing cancer cells to grow into a tumor.

The hope is this discovery will help experts target therapies for specific cancers.
