Driver killed after pulling in front of VTA vehicle

MILPITAS, CA

The collision occurred at about 7 p.m. near Tasman Drive and Interstate Highway 880, VTA spokeswoman Jennie Loft said.

The driver of the vehicle turned left in front of the VTA vehicle, which collided with the car and dragged it 400 feet before coming to a stop, Loft said.

The driver was pronounced dead following the crash, according to Loft.

There were about 30 people on the VTA vehicle when the collision occurred. One passenger suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a local hospital, Loft said.

VTA light rail service has been suspended between the Montague and Baypointe stations, according to Loft.

She said crews were working to have service restored this morning.

"We're hopeful everything will be back to normal but can't guarantee it at this point," Loft said.
