Fire shuts down Nordstrom department store

SAN JOSE, CA

San Jose firefighters responded to the store at 2400 Forest Ave. at 6:37 p.m. on reports of a sprinkler system activation and found smoke on the third floor of the building, Capt. Skip Bloom said.

Firefighters called a second alarm upon arrival and when they determined the smoke was coming from a locked broiler room that could not be accessed, requested a third alarm, Bloom said.

He said when firefighters entered the room, the blaze had been extinguished by the sprinkler system. The fire was declared under control at 7:37 p.m.

"When they did access it, they found more water damage than anything else," Bloom said.
