Dozens of parents spent the night in tents outside Cipriani Elementary School in Belmont.
There are 20 kindergarten spots this September, it's a first come, first-serve basis, with siblings of current students getting priority. These parents say they would rather camp out, than face a lottery system that the district had considered.
The Belmont/Redwood Shores School District says enrollment has jumped in recent years, not even a new school opening this fall will solve the problem.
District officials are looking to put a bond on the November ballot to raise money for new schools and improvements to existing schools.
