Belmont parents campout to get their kids in school

BELMONT, CA

Dozens of parents spent the night in tents outside Cipriani Elementary School in Belmont.

There are 20 kindergarten spots this September, it's a first come, first-serve basis, with siblings of current students getting priority. These parents say they would rather camp out, than face a lottery system that the district had considered.

The Belmont/Redwood Shores School District says enrollment has jumped in recent years, not even a new school opening this fall will solve the problem.

District officials are looking to put a bond on the November ballot to raise money for new schools and improvements to existing schools.
