Students plant trees, register them online

SAN JOSE, CA

Students traded books and pencils for gloves and shovels Thursday morning at Vinci Park Elementary School. The plantings helped launch a campaign called "Every Tree Counts." That program lets San Jose register the trees they plant online.

"Trees are great for the environment, they help create oxygen for us to breathe... we love trees and we want a lot more of them," said San Jose Mayor Chuck Reed. "And if we're going to get a hundred thousand, we need to get everybody involved."

City crews helped the Vinci Park students plant 44 trees on their campus.
