Anderson Dam at risk of collapsing if quake hits

SANTA CLARA, Calif.

Santa Clara County Water District officials say if an earthquake with a magnitude greater than seven hits, the Anderson Reservoir could collapse.

The dam is situated along the Calaveras Fault and the latest findings confirm the results of earlier studies.

As a precaution, dam operators will keep reservoir levels to no more than 56 percent full until the dam can be retrofitted, but right now, reservoir levels are lower than that.
