Big-rig catches fire on the San Mateo Bridge

SAN MATEO BRIDGE

The 26-foot flatbed truck, which was carrying a load of plastic chairs and oxygen tanks, struck a wall midspan and burst into flames at about 10:15 a.m., CHP Sgt. John Carman said.

The fire was put out by 10:39 a.m., but the cabin of the truck was destroyed, Carman said.

Two eastbound lanes of state Highway 92 on the bridge are closed because of the fire, and a tow truck has been called. Westbound traffic is also moving slowly, Carman said.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash and the driver appears to have escaped injury, Carman said.
