Raiders backup QB battle a local affair

OAKLAND, Calif.

If you check out the /*Raiders*/ QB position, the Bay Area's local colleges are well represented. Cal's Kyle Boller, Stanford's Trent Edwards, and San Jose States Jordan LaSecla are battling for the back-up spot in this competitive yet friendly competition.

"This is the first time I've met Jordan obviously, but I known Trent from the past, actually saw him right before we all came here. So, it's good to see him. He's a great kid and I look forward to working with both of them," Boller said.

"There is a little West Coast connection. Kyle Boller who I have been around obviously here in Oakland and Baltimore, tremendous young man, great character and loves football," head coach Hue Jackson said.

Kyle was with the team last year and Trent was added as a free agent this summer. He told ABC7 he is in no position to talk trash with his local teammates

"I lost to San Jose State my senior year and I lost all five years in college to Cal, so I haven't really brought up that rivalry yet," he said.

"Trent, I've gotten to know through this process of getting him on this football team," Jackson said. "Again, he's a guy that works hard. Football is very important to him, very passionate to him."

LeSecla is the rookie of the group and he is just trying to keep up.

"The older guys, you know, they treat me like a rookie, but they're good to me. They help me. I ask a lot of questions and I'm sure it bothers them at times, but they always help me out," he said.

As it all shakes out, the one thing we do know is this year's back-up to Jason Campbell will be a Bay Area product.
