Firefighters rescued a man from a burning home in Antioch this morning by pulling him through a second-story window, a Contra Costa County Fire Protection District official said.

The two-alarm fire was reported at 6:47 a.m. at a two-story house in the 4000 block of Meadow Lake Street.

Responding firefighters saw "significant smoke" as they were arriving at the home, and received word that an elderly man was trapped on the second floor, Fire Marshal Lewis Broschard said.

Firefighters used a ladder to reach the man, and pulled him through the window to safety, Broschard said.

He did not yet know whether the man was injured, but said firefighters have controlled the blaze.

"The firefighters did a good job of making a quick rescue from the exterior," he said.
