The crash was reported at about 4:30 p.m. Sunday on Highway 116 just east of Bloomfield Road, according to the CHP.
Patrick Curley, 55, was driving a 1990 Chevrolet Corvette and had allegedly been traveling at about 100 mph when he struck a culvert and spun into the pole, CHP officials said.
A neighbor who heard the crash saw Curley trying to flee the scene. The neighbor followed and detained him until police arrived, according to the CHP.
Officers said Curley showed signs of intoxication and began to behave aggressively toward an officer before being handcuffed and put in a patrol vehicle.
Curley, a Sebastopol resident, was arrested on suspicion of DUI and hit-and-run and also has multiple prior convictions, including for DUI and driving on a suspended license, according to the CHP.
