Woman dead after attack in San Jose

SAN JOSE, Calif.

Police received a call from a residence in the 1900 block of Johnston Avenue around 11 p.m. Arriving officers found two women who had apparently been physically attacked, police said.

One victim was pronounced deceased at the scene while a second 40-year-old victim was taken by ambulance to a hospital, where she was treated for injuries not considered life-threatening and was released, police said.

It appears a suspect attacked the women inside the home using an edged weapon, police said. Officers searched the neighborhood for the suspect, who was last seen fleeing on foot. Police said this morning that the suspect has not been found.

This is the city's 39th homicide of the year.
