The San Jose Police Department has just released new numbers showing a 33 percent surge in homicides in the first six months of the year. The report shows 24-people have been killed in San Jose between January and June of this year, compared to 18 in the same period last year.

Other violent crimes, including robbery, are down 14 percent. Gang-related violent crime is also down nearly 16 percent. San Jose police are crediting a recent gang crackdown for the decrease.

Five more people have been killed in the streets of San Jose since the report was completed last month, including a 17-year-old shot on Murtha Drive Sunday morning. Police have made no arrests in that case.
