SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- The stir, the shake, with ice or without -- there's a science to cocktails and what makes some of them taste so good.

ABC7 News joined our partners at the Exploratorium at Pier 15 Friday evening to delve into the secret of spirits.

There were master distillers, physicists, chemists and mixologists who gave demonstrations and entertained attendees.

They debated shaken versus stirred, infused cocktails with pressure and used conductive ink to create custom light-up coasters.

Exploratorium spokesperson Shannon Eliot said, "All attendees tonight get to learn the science behind our favorite cocktails, what goes into a martini, how can you make a cocktail taste at its best. So we're having a lot of fun tonight."

The annual "Science of Cocktails" isn't just a fun night on the town it also raises money for education programs.
