Power restored for Berkeley outages

Power has been restored to all Pacific Gas and Electric Co. customers affected by an early morning outage in Berkeley today that turned the lights off for 10,000 at its peak, a PG&E spokeswoman said.

The outage was reported at 1:41 a.m. and affected customers in and around the city's downtown area, according to PG&E spokeswoman Susan Simon.

By 3:40 a.m., the number of affected customers was down to 3,500 and power was restored to all customers at about 5 a.m., according to Simon.

The cause of the outage was not immediately available.
