Pedestrian killed on I-880 in Oakland

All southbound lanes of Interstate Highway 880 in Oakland are open following a fatal crash that blocked southbound Highway 880 for more than an hour this morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.

A pedestrian walking on southbound Highway 880 just north of Hegenberger Road was struck and killed by a vehicle, CHP Officer Aaron Quistad said. The CHP was alerted to the crash at 4:23 a.m., according to Quistad.

All southbound lanes of Highway 880 were subsequently closed while authorities investigated the crash, Quistad said.

The No. 1 and 2 lanes reopened at about 5:30 a.m., CHP Officer A. Paulson said. The remaining lanes reopened at about 6:15 a.m., according to Paulson.

A Sig-alert issued at 4:38 a.m. was canceled at 6:22 a.m.
