Mark Leno co-authored the bill introduced earlier this week.
It would keep existing provisions barring the use of marijuana at work and would protect employers from liability by making an exception for safety sensitive jobs.
Last month, the State Supreme Court ruled that an employer can terminate a worker solely because they use medical marijuana.
