The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety tested nine midsize SUV's. Only one vehicle earned the highest rating in front, side and rear crash tests -- the redesigned 2009 Nissan Murano.
Three SUV's earned the lowest rating of poor, in rear crash tests: the Hummer H3, Jeep liberty and Mitsubishi Endeavor.
However, despite the poor ratings, the Insurance Institute says overall, the safety of SUV's is improving.
