The woman's wheelchair malfunctioned prior to her fall, a BART spokesperson said.
She fell off the platform onto the train tracks at the Lake Merritt BART station.
The trains were halted and rescue crews were able to reach the woman and get her back onto the platform.
The woman suffered some injuries in the fall and she was taken to a local hospital to be examined.
