Naked man attacks paramedic

GUERNEVILLE, CA

Just before 8 a.m. units from the Russian River Fire Protection District were dispatched to render medical aid on Guerne Way, according to the sheriff's office.

Units arrived to find 55-year-old resident Jose Alvarez standing naked in the driveway, bleeding profusely from a wound on his wrist. He reached into the bed of his nearby pickup truck and pointed a handgun at the paramedics, who quickly left the immediate area.

Sheriff's deputies arrived shortly after and found Alvarez sitting spread-legged in the driveway with his hands in the air. After ignoring orders from the deputies to lie still, he was Tased as he tried to get to a nearby ice chest.

Alvarez kicked one paramedic in the head before he was restrained and transported to the hospital for treatment to his injuries and a mental health evaluation, according to the sheriff's office.

A witness told deputies that Alvarez crashed his truck into a retaining wall hear his home and stripped off his clothes while trying to extricate himself from the vehicle. The gun in his possession was not loaded, but had several spent cartridges.

Alvarez is being charged with felony assault with a deadly weapon, battery against fire and law enforcement personnel, and resisting arrest.
