Metering lights activated along Hwy 280

SAN MATEO COUNTY, CA

Caltrans officials say ramp metering improves the flow of traffic by reducing merging and weaving conflicts near freeway entrances, and that ramp metering has already proven successful in the Bay Area.

Metering lights have been installed at the northbound on-ramps to Highway 280 from Sneath Lane/San Bruno Avenue, Westborough Boulevard, Hickey Boulevard and Serramonte Boulevard.

The metering lights will operate between 3 and 8 p.m. Monday through Friday.

According to Caltrans, the lights have been set at green for the past week to alert motorists of the installation.

The project is a partnership between Cal Trans, the City/County Association of Governments of San Mateo County, the cities of San Bruno, South San Francisco, Colma and Daly City, and the Metropolitan Transportation Commission.
