Free flu shots at drive-thru clinic

The clinic, which will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Hilltop Mall at 2200 Hilltop Mall Rd., will also serve as a drill for Contra Costa Health Services and other county and city agencies to practice alternative methods of dispending medication during a health emergency.

County officials are advising that everyone older than 6 months old should receive the vaccine. The flu kills about 36,000 people annually in the U.S., according to county officials.

A nasal spray is being offered as an alternative for people who don't like getting shots, and are between the ages of 2 and 49 years old and are not pregnant.

People with egg allergies should not get the vaccine because it contains egg products.
