BART breaks airport ridership record

SAN FRANCISCO

Between Dec. 21 and Dec. 27, 78,700 people took advantage of BART's SFO train-to-plane connection, a 26 percent increase from the same period last year.

Ridership to the airport was up 97 percent from 2003 when the SFO station opened, according to BART officials.

BART officials attribute the steady increase in ridership in part to the comparatively low cost of taking the train. A BART ride from downtown San Francisco to the airport costs $5.35, while taking a taxi can cost between $35 and $40.
