San Anselmo police used a Taser gun Monday evening to subdue a 25-year-old Ross man who tried to flee after officers responded to a report of an intoxicated person at a local business.

At about 5:15 p.m., police were called to San Anselmo Coffee Roasters in the 500 block of San Anselmo Avenue, according to police.

Arriving officers determined a man at the businesss, Mitchell Peterson, was under the influence of either drugs or alcohol, and took him into custody, police said.

While being escorted to a patrol vehicle, Peterson broke free of the officer's grip and ran down San Anselmo Avenue, according to police.

After chasing Peterson for about two blocks, an officer used the Taser gun to end the pursuit, causing Peterson to fall to the ground, police said.

Peterson was not injured but was taken to Marin General Hospital for medical clearance. He was later booked into Marin County Jail, police said.
