The Sonoma County Sheriff's Department has released a sketch of the man who has been following women driving alone in their cars and in some cases getting them to pull over.

The first woman who pulled over was sexually battered on Nov. 18 on Bennett Valley Road in Rincon Valley. Other similar incidents, but without assaults, occurred on Dec. 4 and Feb. 12 and Jan. 6.

The sketch is based on a description given by a woman who pulled over on Calistoga Road on Jan. 6 after the suspect flashed his vehicle's headlights and told her to call 911 because there was a motorcycle accident, sheriff's Sgt. Dave Thompson said.

The suspect opened the woman's car door but she fled, Thompson said. The woman got a look at the suspect's face, however, before he covered it with a turtleneck shirt, Thompson said.

She reported the incident to the California Highway Patrol but did not report the incident to the sheriff's department until late February after she read about other similar incidents, Thompson said.

The suspect is a white male with dark hair and a pasty complexion, Thompson said. The suspect also used the motorcycle accident ruse on Nov. 18, Thompson said.

While a crime did not occur on Jan. 6, the suspect's behavior caused concern because it was similar to the first incident, Thompson said.

The sheriff's department e-mailed the sketch to deputies so they could be on the lookout for the suspect, Thompson said. The e-mail was further disseminated outside the sheriff's department and printed in North Bay newspapers and on news Web sites.

Thompson said Monday morning the sketch will appear soon on the department's Web site.

A description of the suspect's vehicle varies from a blue sedan, possibly with a spoiler, to a black Suburban-style SUV, the sheriff's department said.

Since the sketch has been disseminated, the sheriff's department has been working on a few leads, Thompson said.
