Paolo Dominici was last seen when he went spear fishing with a friend off the Kona Coast, on the Big Island of Hawaii.
His wife reported him missing Saturday morning. Search crews later found Dominici's mask and snorkel.
The 49-year-old was on vacation with his family. He is the owner of the popular "Bacco Ristorante" in San Francisco's Noe Valley district.
