Supervisors voted to allow Sutter Health to build a new $300 million hospital in Castro Valley on the current site of Eden Medical Center. The hospital would have all private rooms.

Nurses and other healthcare workers opposed the move, saying it would likely lead to the closure of San Leandro Hospital.

Supervisors also called on Sutter to make known what they intend to do with San Leandro Hospital.
