Kathleen Acord died in the collision, which was reported at about 1:50 p.m. Sunday at the intersection of Guerneville and Vine Hill roads, according to the CHP.
Acord was driving her 2002 Honda Civic north on Vine Hill Road with her 53-year-old husband as a passenger when she apparently came to a stop at the intersection of Guerneville Road, where a 31-year-old man was driving his 1995 Jeep Cherokee in the eastbound lane.
According to witnesses, Acord started to pull out to cross Guerneville Road when she stopped suddenly. The man thought it was safe to continue when Acord suddenly continued forward into his path of travel, according to the CHP.
The driver of the Jeep tried to swerve out of the way, but his vehicle struck the left side of the Honda, killing Acord on impact, according to the CHP.
Her husband was transported to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital with major injuries but is expected to survive. The driver of the Jeep was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries, according to the CHP.
The collision is still under investigation.
