/*East Palo Alto*/ police say a taxi driver in his 20s had parked his car on Hunter Street near University Avenue. It was close to midnight when he was sitting in it and a person approached him at the car. Whether there was an argument or an exchange of words is unclear, but the man was shot.
Police say they initially came out to the neighborhood thinking there were fireworks being lit off; their "shot spotter system" had alerted them about loud, popping sounds on the street.
"Officers arrived at this location and observed the victim lying on a porch of the 2700 block with multiple gunshot wounds. Paramedics attempted to help him, but due to the multiple gunshot wounds they were not able to save him," said East Palo Alto Police Capt. Carl Estelle.
Witnesses say the victim got out of the taxi after he was shot, ran to his friend's house and collapsed on the front porch. The suspect was last seen riding away on a bicycle.
Investigators are collecting evidence, and looking for the murder suspect -- no description has been released yet.
The cab driver lived in San Jose but was initially from East Palo Alto and was visiting a friend at the time of the shooting.
Police haven't confirmed a motive yet.
