The algae is keeping boaters away and they are calling on the government to help clean it up.

The algae clumps at the surface, and gives off a foul smell.

The clarity of Clear Lake had actually been improving in recent years, but ironically, that is what let the sunlight into places it had not been before, causing the algae to bloom.

The Chamber of Commerce says while the algae only covers a portion of the lake, all businesses are suffering because of it.
