Obama made the comment during a CNBC interview on Monday. The comment was made during an off-the-record moment but was tweeted by ABC News reporter Terry Moran.
"Pres. Obama just called Kanye West a 'jackass' for his outburst at VMAs when Taylor Swift won. Now THAT'S presidential," Moran wrote. The comment was later deleted from the account.
West interrupted 19-year-old /*Taylor Swift*/, who had just been named 'best female artist,' during her award acceptance speech. West got on stage took the microphone from Swift and proclaimed that nominee /*Beyonce*/ had "one of the best videos of all time."
ABC has apologized for Moran's unauthorized tweet. In a statement to Politico, an ABC News spokesperson said, "In the process of reporting on remarks by President Obama that were made during a CNBC interview, ABC News employees prematurely tweeted a portion of those remarks that turned out to be from an off-the-record portion of the interview. This was done before our editorial process had been completed. That was wrong. We apologize to the White House and CNBC and are taking steps to ensure that it will not happen again."
