The "Tip-A-Cop" event will take place between 4 p.m. and 10 p.m. at the restaurant at 3130 Alpine Road in Portola Valley.

The event is designed to give law enforcement an opportunity to team up with local restaurants to support the Special Olympics.

Deputies work with regular wait staff serving tables, telling customers about the event and soliciting tips as donations for Special Olympics.

The Special Olympics provides mentally and physically challenged children and adults year-round sports training to help them develop confidence and self-esteem.

Donations may be made directly to the Special Olympics by mailing a check to the Sheriff's Transportation Unit, Attn. Deputy Todd Finato, 400 County Center, Redwood City, CA, 94063.
