Walmart in particular is putting a bigger emphasis on safety after a crowd trampled a worker to death last year at a store in New York.

The New York Times reports Walmart will open Thanksgiving morning and remain open through Friday evening, rather than closing Thanksgiving evening, and reopening early on Black Friday.

Workers will be in front of the store to direct customers and keep them moving and shoppers will have to form lines in front of large product displays, like plasma TVs f they want to buy one, rather than grabbing them off the shelf.

The new safety measures were developed by experts who deal with crowds at events like the Super Bowl.
