A Redwood City high school is about to become the first in California to have an advanced defibrillator that could save young athletes' lives.

A so-called "cardiac post" will be activated next week near Sequoia High School's track and football field. The post comes complete with an automatic external defibrillator to restore heart rhythm, a video camera and a direct connection to 911 at the push of a button.

The Sequoia Health Care District donated the $11,000 device.
