San Rafael police have released a surveillance photo of a suspect in two armed robberies that occurred within half an hour of each other Saturday night.

Mini's Market and Deli at 4140 Redwood Highway in Terra Linda was robbed at about 8:50 p.m. and the Picante Taqueria at 340 Bellam Blvd. was held up at about 9:15 p.m., police spokeswoman Margo Rohrbacher said.

Cash was taken in both robberies. Police today released an image captured during the taqueria robbery.

The suspect is a white man with a heavy or medium build and tattoos on both arms. He was wearing a ski mask and had a black handgun.

The image shows that the robber has a distinctive star tattoo at the base of his right elbow, Rohrbacher said. The Mini Mart armed robber was wearing a gray overcoat and black shirt.

Police are asking for the public's help in identifying the suspect. Anyone with information is asked to call San Rafael police at (415) 485-3000 or contact Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477 or online at www.bayareacrimestoppers.com.
