Vallejo officials are working on a plan to beef up the city's police force in the wake of a string of violent crimes.

Vallejo Mayor Osby Davis, the city's police chief and the Solano County sheriff say deputies will help assist city patrols.

Vallejo is also asking the CHP to step in during the summer.

This month, there have been two murders, the beating of a city employee, the shooting of an ice cream truck driver and a triple stabbing.

The city has cut more than a quarter of its police force since 2007 as it struggles to emerge from bankruptcy.
