A Pacific storm system offshore is generating large, steep swells, according to forecasters. As the swells approach the coast they will produce steep, breaking waves within the surf zone.

Weather service officials say dangerous sneaker waves and strong rip currents are possible within the surf zone. They also are urging beachgoers go use caution around rocks and coves, even if they appear dry and safe.

The advisory will be in effect through 11 a.m. Sunday.
