A distraught woman called the sheriff's office at about 7:30 a.m. to report that she had heard a gunshot and that her husband was lying on the front deck of their house and not breathing, sheriff's Sgt. Dan Campos said.
The woman said there had been a dispute between her husband and his stepfather, Campos said.
Sheriff's deputies responded to the home on Hutchinson Road and found a man dead on the front deck.
Neighbors told deputies they saw a man running through the neighborhood with a rifle. A short time later, deputies found a man matching the description of the stepfather on the ground not far from the house. He had a rifle next to him and had been shot, Campos said. That man was also pronounced dead.
Campos said it is too early to tell whether the double shooting was a murder-suicide.
