Earl Lee Williams, 38, was arrested without incident on April 15 while walking near Washington and Kearny streets, police said.
Williams, who police said has no local address, is suspected of robbing a First Bank at 550 Montgomery St. on March 25; an East West Bank at 1066 Grant Ave. on March 29; and a Chase Bank at 1040 Grant Ave. on April 6.
Police said Williams used a robbery note each time. Investigators used footage from bank surveillance cameras to identify him.
In addition to multiple counts of bank robbery, Williams was also charged with violating his federal parole for a bank robbery spree in 2004, police said.
A suspect in another recent series of bank robberies in San Francisco, who robbed four banks between March 22 and April 2 -- holding a knife to the throats of bank customers in three of them -- is still at large, police said.
Those robberies were also caught on video.
